That is a good insight Kesava. As you say, there have been no repercussions for the plagiarist. As the NYT article shows and the ET article shows Hollywood is atrting to get serious about making money in India and they must also be noticing the cartloads of money the Indian movies are generating and want a piece of action. I hope more such suits for filed by Hollywood studios. - Sukumar

People copy if they are not accountable. Audience dont punish Bollywood for making the same movies, Hollywood studios didnt bother to take notice until now. No Indian reviewer, TV channel is bold enough to criticize the movie maker for churning out top notch junk. There is absolutely no cost for the director to make the same movie. On the other hand, trying out something new has lots of costs and uncertainties. American companies have done that when they were still catching up way back during WW II (I have to look for references, but trust me this is true). It just makes the right sense: "Dont fix it, if aint broken"

I am not sure Indian movie going audience will punish the movie makers anytime soon...but Hollywood is starting to take notice. Y Times has an article on Hollywood studio investments in Bollywood. That should bring more such law suits as they are in direct competition. Foreign money can bring in some professionalism to the most chaotic industry too.

Correct Archana. I can grudgingly try to understand plagiarism by the commoners, but such blatant plagiarism from the supposedly creative and moneyed group is shameful. - Sukumar

It is really sad that the world's largest movie industry has to resort of plagiarism. I think with many multinational studios entering the Indian movie industry, this kind of plagiarism may reduce (atleast hoping)
