The nearest competition to iPod comes through Micro$oft Zune,but still Micro$oft guys couldn't come out of lame copying & useless DRM frills attached psycology.People won't buy an alternative just because it supports a couple of more formats or some useless features.But as pointed in the post you need to have a really good buisness strategy in order to compete with iPod. DRM is hardly an issue with iPods,iPods and iTunes will both play unencumbered mp3s, and iTunes is perfectly happy to rip CDs to unencumbered mp3s.iPod supports DRM. It doesn't require it.Apple guys are smart enough not to mess up there.
